With two weeks before their national convention, several prominent Democrats are saying Edwards must publicly address anonymously sourced National Enquirer stories that claim he had an affair with a campaign worker and fathered her baby.

“He absolutely does have to [resolve it]. If it’s not true, he has to issue a stronger denial,” said Gary Pearce, the Democratic strategist who ran Edwards’ 1998 Senate race. “It’s a very damaging thing. ... The big media has tried to be responsible and handle this with kid gloves, but it’s clearly getting ready to bust out. If it’s not true, he’s got to stand up and say, ‘This is not true. That is not my child and I’m going to take legal action against the people who are spreading these lies.’ It’s not enough to say, ‘That’s tabloid trash.’ ”

Sillier than trying to pass off a story that has ONLY been covered by the National Enquirer as unquestionable fact?
I still don't get what the point of repeating this smear is... is it just to say "libs suck!" Who bleeping-well cares if he had an affair or not? That's between him and his wife, until such a time as he tries to pass himself off as a moral compass for the rest of us. Or is Obama guilty by association, because they were once in the same primary race?
Edwards has a love-child, therefore Obama is unfit to lead the nation!

In this particular instance, an actual criminal complaint has been filed and Edwards named. Seems the reporters were hotel guests that night he met his mistress and love child, yet the hotel staff blocked their access to hotel areas.
Also, a hotel staffer has come out and said that, yes, all of that went down with Edwards cowering in the hotel bathroom waiting for help while those mean old reporters were outside with ...GASPPPPPP ... Questions!!!!!!

The visibly pregnant blonde has relocated from the New York area to Chapel Hill, N.C., where she is living in an upscale gated community near political operative Andrew Young, who's been extremely close to Edwards for years and was a key official in his presidential campaign.
And in a bizarre twist, Young — a 41-year-old married man with young children — now claims HE is the father of Rielle's baby! But others are skeptical, wondering if Young's paternity claim is a cover-up to protect Edwards. “Andrew Young is the father of Ms. Hunter’s unborn child,” declared his (Young's)Washington, D.C.-based attorney.
Then the Enquirer has reported that Edwards or his allies have made monthly payments to Hunter, supporting her first in North Carolina and now in California
Then it was reported that Edwards or his allies relocated Young from North Carolina to California to support the story of his fatherhood.
Word then started leaking out that Young sick of living this lie and his wife Cheri is particularly fed up
The birth certificate for the child does not list a fatjer's name. Seems strange since Young supposedly acknowleged publically that he is the father
Now it seems as if some leaders in the Democratic Party aren't buying this nonsense either-

If this story is true (Edwards' weak response seems to support it) I really feel sad for his wife, Elizabeth and his kids. The affair seems to have taken place as his wife got the devastating news of her inoperable cancer.

Edwards is a wealthy, accomplished lawyer and if this story were untrue he would have a slam-dunk case of libel against the Enquirer. A simple paternity test excluding him as the father would win him millions of dollars in damages and put this story to rest. -
