In order to show myself worthy and approved, in order to make sure I can present myself pure before God, self-love was not an option for a believer because it was seen as a sin against God.

Most of the churches stance on sex was brought about by St. Augustine. Before he was "saved" he was a notorious womanizer, a man who engaged often in the pleasures of the world. And like many who found religion after a life of "sin" he decided that was bad for anyone to engage in a carnal practice for anything other than procreation.

I have trouble explaining this to many people to this day about St. Augustine.Try going out and telling a Southern baptist there sexual beliefs came from a Catholic.
I also have doubts in my mind about the writings of Paul in the Bible also because he came from the same background.

What a pile of caca to think that self-love is somehow against nature or sinful. Give me a break! Why do dogs lick themselves? Because they can. They need no other reason. Humans are similar to animals in that we commit many of the same acts they do. Pass the lotion, please.

If masterbation is so sinful, then how come wet-dreams are more intense? Are you, as a spiritually minded person, going to kick yourself from what could be something your subconscious has produced, something that seems out of your control? And, where DO dreams really come from? What creates the subconscious? IF your sex dreams come from Satan, how can a fallen angel be that creative and with SO many millions of people having sex dreams at the same time?
Seems to me that if you want to know who you REALLY are, you will go without masterbation for a LONG time, till you have a wet-dream, and, the person you meet that you have a sexual situation with, reveals who you really are interested in. You may fantasize about blondes, but, your subconcious shows you with brunettes.

Hi tchef -- I think Augustine left his women when his libido left HIM -- then it was easy for him to become a "paragon of virtue". What a pig he was and naturally, they "sainted" the hypocrite. Masturbation is the most natural thing in the world and God gave it to us so how can it be wrong? That's like saying nocturnal emissions are "sinful" -- God made males to have them so they CANNOT be wrong. The dang RC church ALWAYS put sex down unless, of course, you agreed to have as many kids as you possibly could -- heaven forbid humans should be permitted to engage in FUN SEX.
